It can be hard to believe that there are people on this planet leading multinational companies that still manage to maintain relationships with family and friends, and on top of that still find time for normal everyday activities. We have found out that the trick to an efficient life is this – to be the boss of your morning! Routines of highly successful people have been studied and the pattern that was revealed was that they were all early risers. Do you want to be successful? Become the #boss of your mornings!
A study lead by 23andMe showed that, believe it or not – night owls are more likely to suffer from insomnia than early risers. Apart from a night owl’s nighttime creativeness, it is not good for the body clock to go to bed late and wake up late since it puts the body out if it’s natural body clock. This is why early birds are way more proactive than night owls, more productive and live in general a happier life.
Tips on owning your morning
These new discoveries may make you rethink your morning routines and aim to become an early bird. Mel Robbins, the author of the 5-second rule, introduces some simple yet very effective methods to become the boss of your mornings. She claims that all her secret to her million dollar business is that she learned how to become an early bird and takes advantage of those 2 hours when she is most productive.
So, here are her quick and easy tips:
1. Set your intentions and get organised
You don’t need to like it, just do it. Mel still hates waking up early in the morning, but she has clear goals to achieve which make her waking up no matter what. She uses the 5 seconds rule to jump out of the bed. The technique is to count from 5 to 1 actually works very well. Instead of hitting the snooze button you count 5..4..3..2..1 and jump out of the bed without thinking too much about it. It’s a technique to kill laziness on the spot.
2. Never hit the snooze button
There is scientific evidence behind it saying that hitting the snooze button will make you tired and unable to concentrate during the rest of the day. This is something that is called sleep inertia.Human beings sleep in 90-110 minutes of circles from REM to deep sleep. If you hit the snooze button your brain will start a new circle, which means you will be unable to finish a circle and your brain will need an extra 3-4 hour to wake up. This means you threw out 4 productive hours on the window for 10 minutes more sleep.
3. Exchange your phone for an alarm clock in your bedroom
First and most foremost, buy an alarm clock! Having a phone in the bedroom is also a no go for a good night sleep. Mel puts her alarm clock in the bathroom and when she jumps out of the bed she immediately has a cold shower and can start her day with tons of energy.
There is no such a thing as a night owl. Try to follow the sun, become the boss of your mornings and live a more productive and happy life.
